Luminous White Mother Of Pearl Button designed into a Pendant Necklace with Intricate Copper Wire Wrapping and Copper Chain
“The Light Within”
Mother of Pearl Buttons were the perfect button material for many many years before the invention of plastics, not only for their beauty and durability, but for the mere fact that they were waterproof ! I love to clean and buff the old MOP buttons and restore their original iridescence and luminosity.
Chosen for this pendant is a gorgeous white Mother of Pearl vintage button with fantastic inner luminosity. It has an oval shape . I intricately wire wrapped the button into a pendant with raw copper and gave the wrapping a rich patina. The chain is copper also, and has a handmade hook and eye closure .
There is a photo of the back of the pendant showing how the wire wrapping securely holds the button. If you look carefully, you can see where I removed the metal shank of the Mother of Pearl Button. I did this only because the shank was way too large.
The length of the chain is twenty one inches. The length can be shortened by hooking into any of the loops of the strongly made chain.
With the wire wrapping the pendant measures one inch wide by one and seven eights inches long.
The intriguing art of wire wrapping is something I’ve wanted to learn for quite a while, and it seemed like a complete mystery to me when I first discovered it. But with the magic of U Tube I learned this design from the wonderful Kelly Jones who provided the tutorial. I am so grateful!
Thank you for your kind interest!
