Handcrafted Vintage Metal Filigree Button Earrings with Biwa Fresh Water Pearls
When metal buttons are flattened the impressions upon them are morphed into an old world effect and they are beautifully transformed.
Here, four vintage “mirror back” brass buttons are first flattened and then dapped slightly to a curved effect, and then placed back to back. Mirror back buttons have an open work filigree design with a sheet of shiny metal beneath to help catch the light.
There are tiny graduated in size gold filled rings that have been flattened and curved embellishing each side of the earrings.
The French hook ear wires are handmade with gold filled 20 gauge wire, hardened in a tumbler, and the loops holding the earrings are soldered closed.
Lovely white iridescent biwa fresh water pearls add to the elegant design.
A wonderful feature of these earrings is their ability to ever so gently turn as they are being worn, showcasing the fact there is a front and an identical back to each earring. This was done with the two gold filled rings just below the ear wires that enable the turning.
The button diameter is 5/8 inches.
The dangle length is 1 1/2 inches long.
